The Safest Way to Merge Confidential HMRC Tax Documents

Filing a Self Assessment tax return in the United Kingdom requires extreme organization. Last January, I had to compile multiple P60s, dividend vouchers, and expense receipts into a single cohesive document for my accountant.

I had a dozen separate files and needed to combine them. A quick search revealed hundreds of free PDF merging websites. However, reading their privacy policies revealed a terrifying truth: many of them store uploaded documents on their remote servers for up to 24 hours.

Uploading sensitive HMRC records containing my National Insurance number to an unknown server was out of the question.

Client-Side Processing is Mandatory I strictly advise anyone handling British financial documents to only use browser-based tools. Technologies now exist that allow your browser to merge files locally, using your computer's own memory. The data never travels across the internet.

If you are preparing your tax records, do not compromise your identity. Use secure, local-processing utilities to keep your financial life private.
