About This Tool
Why use Password Generator?
Generate a random password between 8 and 64 characters using lower-case letters plus any of upper case, numbers and symbols you switch on. Characters come from the browser's cryptographic random source, and the generator guarantees at least one character from every category you enable.
Length matters more than complexity. A 16-character password drawn from all four character sets has around 100 bits of entropy, which is far beyond brute-force reach; adding symbols to a short password helps much less than adding four more characters. The only password you should reuse is none of them — a manager makes long, unique passwords practical.
Key Benefits
Cryptographically secure randomness
Characters are drawn from the browser's secure random source with no modulo bias, not from Math.random.
Every selected type is included
Turn on numbers and symbols and the password is guaranteed to contain both, which avoids failed validation.
Generated locally
The password is created in your browser and never sent over the network.
How to use Password Generator
- 1
Set the length. Sixteen characters or more is a sensible default.
- 2
Switch on the character types you need — some sites still reject certain symbols.
- 3
Generate, then copy the result.
- 4
Store it in a password manager rather than retyping or reusing it.
Best use cases
Create a strong password for a new account.
Replace a reused password after a breach notification.
Generate service credentials or an API secret.
Produce a temporary password to hand to a new user.
Password Generator FAQs
How long should a password be?
At least 12 characters, and 16 or more for important accounts. Length adds far more strength than substituting letters with symbols.
Is generating a password in a browser safe?
Yes when it uses the cryptographic random source, as this one does, and nothing is transmitted. Close the tab once you have saved the password.
Are passphrases better than random passwords?
Several random words are easier to remember and can be very strong, but only if the words are chosen randomly and there are enough of them. For passwords you never type, a random string in a manager is stronger.
Should I change passwords regularly?
Current guidance from NIST and the UK NCSC says no — forced rotation leads to weaker, predictable passwords. Change a password when there is a reason to, such as a breach.
