About This Tool

Why use Spam Word Checker?

Paste your email copy and see which phrases are likely to hurt it. Matches are grouped into six categories — false urgency, financial claims, free and prizes, sales buzzwords, suspicious trust language and sensitive topics — and each category carries a different weight, because a pharmaceutical term is a far stronger signal than a generic marketing word.

It is worth understanding what modern filters actually do, so you read the score correctly. Gmail and Outlook stopped scoring on keywords alone a long time ago; what decides placement now is your sending reputation, your authentication, and above all how recipients react to your mail. Spam words still matter at the margin, and a message stuffed with them still looks like what it looks like — but fixing the words in an email that nobody opens will not fix the placement. Use this to tighten copy, not as a deliverability strategy.

Key Benefits

Weighted by category

Sensitive and financial terms count for more than generic sales language, because filters weight them that way too.

Guidance, not just flags

Each category comes with what to write instead, so you are rewriting toward something rather than deleting words.

Analysed in the page

Your copy is checked in the browser and never sent anywhere, which matters for an unreleased campaign.

Spam Word Checker FAQs

Will avoiding these words get me into the inbox?

Not by itself. Placement is driven mainly by sending reputation, authentication and how recipients engage. Word choice matters at the margin — it is worth fixing, but it is not a deliverability strategy.

Why are some words weighted more heavily?

Because filters weight them differently. A pharmaceutical term or an income claim is a much stronger signal than a common marketing word like exclusive, and the scoring reflects that.

Can I never use the word free?

You can. Once, in a message that is otherwise specific and well written, it is fine. The problem is density and combination — free stacked with act now and limited time is what reads as spam.

What actually determines whether mail reaches the inbox?

SPF, DKIM and DMARC being set up correctly; a consistent sending volume from a warmed domain; low bounce and complaint rates; and recipients opening and replying. Copy is the smallest of these.
