About This Tool

Why use Australia Take-Home Pay Calculator?

This calculator shows your Australian take-home pay for the 2026–27 financial year, after income tax, the 2% Medicare levy and any salary sacrifice. It uses the ATO resident rates, including the 15% rate that replaced the 16% rate on 1 July 2026, and applies the Low Income Tax Offset where you qualify.

Example: a A$100,000 salary excluding super. Income tax is A$4,020 on the income between A$18,200 and A$45,000 at 15%, plus A$16,500 on the income between A$45,000 and A$100,000 at 30%, giving A$20,520. The Medicare levy adds A$2,000. Take-home pay is A$77,480 a year — about A$6,456.67 a month or A$2,980 a fortnight — and your employer separately pays A$12,000 into super at the 12% Super Guarantee rate.

Key Benefits

2026–27 ATO rates

Uses the current resident brackets with the 15% rate, the A$18,200 tax-free threshold and the 2% Medicare levy.

Package or base salary

Handles salaries quoted as a total package including super as well as base salary plus super, which are quoted inconsistently across job ads.

Super shown separately

Employer super at the 12% Super Guarantee rate is displayed on its own, because it is not money that reaches your bank account.

Australia Take-Home Pay Calculator FAQs

What are the Australian tax rates for 2026–27?

For residents: nothing on the first A$18,200, 15% from A$18,201 to A$45,000, 30% from A$45,001 to A$135,000, 37% from A$135,001 to A$190,000, and 45% above that. The 2% Medicare levy applies on top for most taxpayers.

Does my salary include superannuation?

It depends how the job was advertised. A 'total package' or 'TFR' figure includes employer super, so your base salary is the package divided by 1.12 at the current 12% rate. 'Base plus super' means super is paid on top. Use the toggle so the calculator treats your figure correctly.

What is the Low Income Tax Offset?

LITO reduces your tax bill by up to A$700 if your taxable income is A$37,500 or less. It phases out at 5 cents per dollar between A$37,500 and A$45,000, then at 1.5 cents per dollar up to A$66,667, above which it is nil. It can reduce your tax to zero but is not refundable beyond that.

Is salary sacrificing into super worth it?

Sacrificed contributions are taxed at 15% inside super rather than at your marginal rate, so the higher your bracket the larger the saving. The trade-off is that the money is locked away until preservation age, and concessional contributions are capped each year, with penalties for exceeding the cap.

Does this include the Medicare levy surcharge or HECS-HELP?

No. The standard 2% Medicare levy is included, but the additional Medicare levy surcharge for higher earners without private hospital cover is not, and neither are HECS-HELP study loan repayments. Both would reduce your take-home pay further if they apply to you.
