About This Tool
Why use Credit Card Interest Calculator?
US credit cards quote interest as an APR, and most issuers apply it daily to your average daily balance. If you pay the full statement balance by the due date, you normally keep a grace period and pay no interest on new purchases.
Carrying a balance changes everything. The Credit CARD Act requires your statement to show how long it would take to repay the balance with minimum payments only, and the answer is often many years. This calculator shows how a fixed monthly payment shortens that timeline and cuts the interest cost.

Credit Card Interest Calculator FAQs
How is credit card interest calculated in the US?
Most issuers divide the APR by 365 to get a daily rate, apply it to your balance each day, and add the interest monthly. Paying earlier in the cycle lowers the average daily balance and the interest charged.
What happens if I only make the minimum payment?
Much of each minimum payment goes to interest, so the balance falls slowly and payoff can take years. Your statement is required to show the payoff time and total cost of paying only the minimum.
Is a balance transfer worth it?
It can be, if the promotional rate period is long enough for you to repay most of the balance. Include the transfer fee in your comparison and note the rate that applies after the promotion ends.
Which currency does this credit card interest use?
Amounts are shown in US Dollars (USD). The formulas are the same everywhere, so you can switch to another country version if you need a different currency.
