About This Tool
Why use Loan Eligibility Calculator?
Auto loans, personal loans and student loans in the US are almost always fully amortizing: every monthly payment covers that month's interest and pays down part of the balance. Under the Truth in Lending Act, lenders must disclose the APR, which includes most fees and is the fairest way to compare offers.
When deciding how much you can borrow, US lenders look closely at your debt-to-income (DTI) ratio: total monthly debt payments divided by gross monthly income. Many lenders prefer a DTI of 36% or less and few go above 43–50%, so treat a very high borrowing limit as a ceiling rather than a target. Your credit score has a large effect on the rate you are offered.

Loan Eligibility Calculator FAQs
What debt-to-income ratio do US lenders want?
Many lenders like to see total monthly debt payments at or below 36% of gross monthly income. Some loan programs allow 43% or even 50% with strong credit or reserves, but a lower DTI generally gets better terms.
Is it better to compare loans by interest rate or APR?
Use the APR. It includes origination fees and other finance charges, so two loans with the same rate can have different APRs and different real costs.
Can I pay off a US personal or auto loan early?
Most personal and auto loans allow early payoff without a penalty, but read the loan agreement. Paying extra toward principal reduces the balance faster and cuts the total interest you pay.
How does my credit score change the payment?
A higher credit score usually earns a lower rate. On a multi-year loan, even one or two percentage points can change the total interest by hundreds or thousands of dollars, so try several rates in the calculator.
Which currency does this loan eligibility use?
Amounts are shown in US Dollars (USD). The formulas are the same everywhere, so you can switch to another country version if you need a different currency.
