About This Tool

Why use CSV to JSON?

Upload a CSV and get a JSON array of objects, with the header row becoming the keys. The file is parsed with Papa Parse following RFC 4180, so quoted fields containing commas, values that span multiple lines and files that use semicolons or tabs all come through correctly instead of being split at the wrong place.

That detail is the whole difference between a CSV parser and splitting on commas. A single company name like "Acme, Inc." is enough to shift every column after it, and a naive converter will hand you plausible-looking JSON with the data in the wrong fields. If a row is genuinely malformed, the output still comes through and you are told how many rows had problems, rather than the whole conversion failing silently.

Key Benefits

Proper CSV parsing

Quoted commas, embedded line breaks and alternative delimiters are handled correctly, which splitting on commas cannot do.

Headers become keys

Each row becomes an object keyed by the header row, which is the shape APIs and JavaScript actually want.

Problems reported, not hidden

Malformed rows are counted and shown rather than silently dropped, so you know whether to trust the output.

How to use CSV to JSON

  1. 1

Upload your .csv file. The first row is treated as the header.

  2. 2

The JSON is generated immediately, one object per data row.

  3. 3

Check the notice if any rows were flagged as malformed.

  4. 4

Copy the JSON to the clipboard or download it as a .json file.

Best use cases

Turn a spreadsheet export into a payload for an API.

Load CSV data into a JavaScript application or a test fixture.

Convert a data extract into JSON for a script to process.

Move a contact or product list from a spreadsheet into a JSON-based system.

CSV to JSON FAQs

What happens to commas inside a quoted field?

They are handled correctly. The file is parsed to the CSV specification, so a value like "Acme, Inc." stays in one field rather than shifting every column after it.

Does it work with semicolon-separated files?

Yes. The delimiter is detected automatically, which covers the semicolon-separated exports produced by Excel in many European locales.

Are numbers converted to JSON numbers?

No — all values come through as strings. That is deliberate: it keeps leading zeros in postcodes, IDs and phone numbers instead of silently destroying them.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The CSV is read and parsed in your browser, so customer lists and exports stay on your device.
