About This Tool
Why use JSON to XML?
Convert JSON into well-formed XML. Objects become nested elements named after their keys, arrays become repeated <item> elements, and every value is escaped — ampersands, angle brackets and quotes are all replaced with their entities, so a value containing & or < cannot break the document.
Most of the reason anyone still needs XML is that something older requires it: a SOAP endpoint, an RSS or sitemap format, a bank or government submission schema, an enterprise system with a fixed XSD. The output is indented for readability, and while the element names come from your JSON keys, you can rename them afterwards to match whatever schema you are submitting against.
Key Benefits
Everything is escaped
Ampersands, angle brackets and quotes in your values are converted to entities, so the XML stays well-formed whatever the data contains.
Indented output
The result is formatted with proper nesting rather than emitted as one unreadable line.
Handles nested structures
Objects inside arrays inside objects are walked recursively, so deep JSON converts in one pass.
How to use JSON to XML
- 1
Paste your JSON into the input panel.
- 2
Convert; keys become element names and arrays become repeated <item> elements.
- 3
Review the indented XML output.
- 4
Copy it, then adjust element names if you are matching a specific schema.
Best use cases
Feed JSON data into a legacy system that only accepts XML.
Build a request body for a SOAP or enterprise API.
Produce XML for a fixed submission schema.
Translate an API response for a tool in an XML-based pipeline.
JSON to XML FAQs
How are JSON arrays represented?
Each element of an array becomes an <item> element inside the parent. XML has no array type, so a repeated child element is the standard way to express one.
Is my data escaped properly?
Yes. &, <, >, " and ' in values are all converted to their XML entities, so content cannot break the document structure.
Can I control the element names?
The names come from your JSON keys, and the root is called root. Rename your keys before converting, or edit the output, if you need to match a specific schema.
Will it produce valid XML for any JSON?
As long as your keys are valid XML element names. Keys starting with a digit or containing spaces are not legal element names, so rename those first.
