About This Tool
Why use MOBI to EPUB?
This tool does not convert MOBI files yet, and says so rather than handing back a renamed archive. MOBI is Amazon's binary ebook format, built on the old Palm database structure, and reading one means implementing that layout plus the PalmDOC and HUFF/CDIC compression schemes it uses — none of which is in the browser build.
The practical answer is Calibre, the free open-source ebook manager, which converts MOBI to EPUB in a couple of clicks on Windows, macOS and Linux. It is also worth knowing that MOBI is retired: Amazon stopped accepting it for Send to Kindle in 2022 and Kindle now takes EPUB directly, so a file you were converting in order to send to a Kindle may not need converting at all.
Key Benefits
No fake output
The tool says plainly that it has no MOBI decoder rather than renaming your file and calling it an EPUB.
A free route that works
Calibre converts MOBI to EPUB on every desktop platform and costs nothing.
MOBI is retired
Amazon dropped MOBI from Send to Kindle in 2022 and Kindle accepts EPUB directly, so the conversion may not be needed at all.

MOBI to EPUB FAQs
Why can this site not read MOBI files?
MOBI is a binary format built on the Palm database structure with its own compression schemes. Decoding it needs an implementation that is not part of this browser build.
What should I use instead?
Calibre. It is free, open source, runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and converts MOBI to EPUB reliably.
Do I even need to convert for my Kindle?
Probably not. Amazon retired MOBI from Send to Kindle in 2022 and Kindle now accepts EPUB directly, so you can usually send the EPUB and skip the conversion.
What about DRM-protected Kindle books?
Those cannot be converted by any tool. DRM-protected purchases are locked to Amazon's ecosystem.
