About This Tool
Why use PDF to EPUB?
Turn a PDF into a proper EPUB ebook. Each page's text is extracted and written as its own XHTML chapter, a navigation document is generated so the table of contents works, and the whole thing is packaged as a valid EPUB 3 archive — with the mimetype file stored uncompressed first, as the specification requires.
That structural detail is what separates a real ebook from a renamed ZIP: readers reject a package that does not follow it. The point of converting is reflow. A PDF's pages are a fixed size, so reading one on a phone or an e-reader means pinching and scrolling sideways. An EPUB reflows to the screen, so text size, margins and line spacing become the reader's choice rather than the document's.
Key Benefits
Valid EPUB 3
The package includes the correctly stored mimetype, a container file, a content manifest and a navigation document, so readers accept it.
Working table of contents
A nav document is generated listing every section, so you can jump around the book rather than scrolling through it.
Text that reflows
Font size, margins and line spacing become the reader's choice, which is the whole reason to leave a fixed-page PDF behind.

PDF to EPUB FAQs
Will images from the PDF be included?
No. The conversion extracts text and builds chapters from it. Illustrated PDFs lose their images, so text-heavy documents are the better candidates.
Why is the EPUB split by page?
A PDF's only reliable structural boundary is the page break, so each page becomes a section. Once it is in a reader the text reflows freely regardless of how it was split.
Does a scanned PDF work?
No. Scans contain no text layer, so the ebook would be empty. Run OCR on the PDF first.
Can I read the result on a Kindle?
Kindle does not open EPUB directly, but sending an EPUB to your Send to Kindle address converts it automatically at Amazon's end.
