About This Tool

Why use HEIC to JPG?

Convert the HEIC photos an iPhone produces into ordinary JPGs. The file is decoded in your browser with heic2any and re-encoded as JPEG at quality 80, which is enough for sharing, printing and uploading while keeping the file comfortably small.

HEIC is Apple's default camera format since iOS 11, and it exists because it stores roughly the same photo in about half the space of a JPEG. The problem is everywhere that is not Apple: Windows needs a paid codec, Android handling is patchy, and a lot of web forms, job portals and government upload pages simply reject the file. Converting to JPG makes the photo work everywhere, at the cost of the size advantage.

Key Benefits

No Windows codec needed

Decoding happens in the browser, so you do not have to buy Microsoft's HEIF extension just to open a photo from your phone.

Works with .heic and .heif

Both extensions Apple uses are handled, so exports from Photos and files copied straight off the device both work.

Photos stay private

The conversion runs on your device, which matters for personal photos and ID documents you would not want to upload.

HEIC to JPG FAQs

Why will my computer not open a .heic file?

HEIC is Apple's format. Windows needs a paid HEIF codec from the Microsoft Store, and support elsewhere is inconsistent. Converting to JPG avoids the problem entirely.

How do I stop my iPhone producing HEIC?

Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPEG. Photos already taken stay HEIC and still need converting.

Will the JPG be bigger than the HEIC?

Usually about twice the size. HEIC's whole purpose is to store the same photo in less space; JPEG trades that back for compatibility.

Is any quality lost?

A small amount. The photo is re-encoded as JPEG at quality 80, which is not visible in normal viewing or printing. Keep the HEIC original if you want the best copy.
