About This Tool
Why use JPG to PNG?
Convert a JPG to PNG in the browser. The JPEG is decoded, drawn to a canvas and re-encoded as PNG — a lossless format, so no further compression damage is added on top of whatever the original JPEG already had.
The usual reason to do this is that something downstream requires PNG: a printer, a design tool, a platform that rejects JPEGs, or an editing workflow where you will be saving repeatedly and do not want quality to degrade with every save. Expect the file to get bigger, often two to five times, because PNG stores every pixel exactly instead of discarding detail the eye is unlikely to miss. One thing this cannot do is restore quality — the artefacts baked into the JPEG stay baked in.
Key Benefits
Lossless from here on
PNG stores pixels exactly, so any further edits and saves will not add more compression artefacts the way repeated JPEG saves do.
Nothing uploaded
The image is decoded and re-encoded in your browser, so photos are never sent to a conversion server.
Accepted everywhere
PNG is supported by every browser, design tool and print workflow, which is often the only reason a JPEG needs converting.

JPG to PNG FAQs
Will converting to PNG improve the image quality?
No. JPEG compression throws detail away permanently, and converting cannot bring it back. PNG just stops any further loss from this point on.
Why is the PNG so much larger than the JPG?
PNG is lossless, so it stores every pixel rather than approximating them. For photographs it is normally two to five times bigger. That is the trade you make for no further quality loss.
Does the PNG get a transparent background?
No. A JPEG has no transparency to carry over, so the PNG is fully opaque. You would need to remove the background in an editor to get transparency.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using a canvas, so the file never leaves your device.
