About This Tool
Why use Pressure Converter?
Convert between pascals, bar, PSI, atmospheres and torr (mmHg). The pascal is the SI unit but it is tiny — one newton per square metre — so practical work uses kilopascals, bar or PSI instead.
Standard atmospheric pressure at sea level is 101,325 Pa, which is 1.013 bar, 14.696 PSI or 760 torr. Car tyres are usually inflated to about 2.2 bar (32 PSI), and blood pressure is still reported in millimetres of mercury, which is the same unit as torr.
Key Benefits
Five pressure units
SI, metric, imperial and medical units in one converter.
Everyday reference points
Atmospheric pressure, tyre pressures and blood pressure all sit on the same scale here.
Exact factors
1 bar is exactly 100,000 Pa and 1 atm is exactly 101,325 Pa by definition.
How to use Pressure Converter
- 1
Choose the unit you have and the unit you need.
- 2
Enter the pressure value.
- 3
Read the converted result.
- 4
Check whether your source means absolute or gauge pressure before comparing figures.
Best use cases
Convert a tyre pressure between bar and PSI.
Read an instrument calibrated in a different unit.
Convert pressure values for an engineering calculation.
Interpret a weather pressure reading in millibars.
Pressure Converter FAQs
How many PSI are in 1 bar?
14.5038 PSI. Car tyre pressures of 2.2 bar and 32 PSI are roughly the same.
What is standard atmospheric pressure?
101,325 Pa, which is 1,013.25 mbar, 1.013 bar, 14.696 PSI or 760 torr at sea level.
What is the difference between gauge and absolute pressure?
Gauge pressure is measured relative to the surrounding air, which is what a tyre gauge shows. Absolute pressure includes atmospheric pressure, so it is about 1 bar higher.
What is torr used for?
Vacuum work and medicine. One torr is one millimetre of mercury, which is why blood pressure is written as, for example, 120/80 mmHg.
