About This Tool

Why use PDF to HTML?

Convert a PDF into a single HTML page. The text of each page is extracted, HTML-escaped so nothing in the document can break the markup, and wrapped in a clean document you can open in any browser or paste into a CMS.

HTML is the format to pick when the content needs to live on the web: it is searchable, it reflows on a phone, and search engines can read it, none of which is true of a PDF you link to. Like the other text-based PDF tools, this reads the text layer — a scanned PDF has none, and images from the original are not carried across.

Key Benefits

Safe, escaped markup

Characters like < and & from the PDF are escaped, so the generated page cannot be broken by the document's own content.

Web-ready output

The result is a self-contained HTML document that opens in any browser and reflows on a phone, unlike the PDF it came from.

Local conversion

The document is read in your browser, so an unpublished report is not uploaded before you are ready to publish it.

PDF to HTML FAQs

Does the HTML keep the PDF's layout?

No. You get the text in reading order inside clean HTML. Columns, exact positioning and page furniture are not reproduced, which is usually what you want for a web page.

Are images included?

No. Only text is extracted. Any images you need on the web page have to be added separately.

Why publish HTML instead of linking the PDF?

HTML pages are indexed more richly, reflow on mobile, load faster and work with screen readers. A linked PDF gives visitors a download rather than a page.

Does it work on scanned documents?

No. A scan has no text layer, so the page would be empty. Run OCR on the PDF first.
