About This Tool

Why use Word to PDF?

Convert a .docx file to PDF in the browser. The document is parsed with mammoth, which reads Word's XML and produces clean HTML, and that is then laid out into a PDF with jsPDF. Headings, paragraphs, bold, italics and lists survive the trip, so the result is a PDF you can email or attach without the recipient needing Word.

Because the layout is rebuilt rather than photographed, the PDF will not be a pixel-identical copy of what Word shows on screen. Fonts fall back to the standard PDF fonts and complex page furniture — text boxes, floating images, multi-column sections — is simplified. For letters, CVs, notes and reports the output is clean and readable, which covers most of the reasons people convert a Word file at all.

Key Benefits

Runs on your device

CVs, offer letters and internal documents are converted in the browser, so nothing is uploaded to a stranger's server.

Text formatting survives

Headings, bold, italics, bullets and numbered lists carry over, so the PDF still reads like the document you wrote.

No Word licence needed

You can turn a .docx into a PDF on a machine that does not have Office installed at all.

Word to PDF FAQs

Does it support old .doc files?

No, only .docx. The old binary .doc format cannot be read in the browser. Open it in Word or LibreOffice and save as .docx first.

Will the PDF look exactly like my Word document?

Close, but not identical. The PDF is rebuilt from the document's content, so fonts fall back to standard PDF fonts and complex layouts are simplified. For plain documents the difference is small.

Are images in my document included?

Embedded images are not carried into the PDF. The conversion focuses on text and its formatting. If your document is image-heavy, export it from Word instead.

Is the file uploaded anywhere?

No. Parsing and PDF generation both happen in your browser, so the document stays on your computer.
