About This Tool

Why use PDF to Word?

Turn a PDF into an editable .docx file without uploading it anywhere. The tool reads the PDF's text layer page by page with pdf.js, then writes a real Word document: each page becomes a heading followed by that page's paragraphs, so you can open it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice and start editing immediately.

This is a text conversion, not a pixel-perfect copy. Columns, images, headers and footers are not reproduced — you get the words and their reading order. That is usually what people want when they are pulling a report or contract into Word to rewrite it. A scanned PDF has no text layer at all, so it will come through empty; run it through OCR first if the pages are photographs of paper.

Key Benefits

Nothing is uploaded

The PDF is read and the Word file built entirely in your browser, so contracts and internal reports never leave your machine.

Page structure kept

Each PDF page starts a Heading 1 in the Word file, so a 40-page document stays navigable instead of becoming one wall of text.

A real .docx file

The output is a genuine Office Open XML document, not an HTML page renamed .doc, so Word opens it without a warning.

PDF to Word FAQs

Does the Word file keep the original layout?

No. It keeps the text and its reading order, with a heading for each page. Images, columns, tables and exact positioning are not reproduced. If you need the layout preserved exactly, keep the PDF.

Why is my converted document empty?

The PDF is almost certainly a scan — a picture of each page with no text layer behind it. Nothing can be extracted from an image without OCR. Run the file through an OCR tool first, then convert.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs in your browser with pdf.js and the docx library. The file never leaves your device, which is the main reason to use this instead of a site that asks you to upload.

Is there a page limit?

There is no fixed limit, but the whole file is held in memory while it converts, so very large PDFs of several hundred pages are slower and depend on how much memory your browser has.

Can I convert a password-protected PDF?

No. Encrypted PDFs cannot be opened for reading. Remove the password in your PDF reader first, then convert the unprotected copy.
