About This Tool
Why use CGPA to Percentage?
Indian universities that grade on a 10-point CGPA usually convert to a percentage by multiplying by 9.5. A CGPA of 8.5 becomes 80.75%. That factor comes from CBSE, which derived it from the average performance of candidates across subjects, and many universities and employers have adopted it.
It is not universal. Some institutions subtract a fixed number (CGPA × 10 − 7.5), some publish their own table, and VTU, Anna University and several others use their own formulas. Before putting a figure on an application, check what your own university prescribes — the difference between methods can be several percentage points.

CGPA to Percentage FAQs
How do I convert CGPA to a percentage?
Multiply your 10-point CGPA by 9.5. A CGPA of 7.8 is 74.1%.
Why 9.5?
CBSE derived the factor from the average marks of students scoring between 91 and 100 across five main subjects, and it became the standard shortcut for 10-point scales.
Does every university use this formula?
No. Several publish their own conversion, such as (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 or a grade-wise table. Always use the rule printed on your transcript or in your university's regulations.
How do I convert a 4-point GPA instead?
There is no single accepted formula. Most credential evaluators use a grade-by-grade table rather than a multiplier, so check the requirements of the body assessing your application.
