About This Tool

Why use Random Number?

Set a minimum and maximum and generate a random whole number in that range, with both ends included. Every value in the range has the same chance of appearing, and results are independent: the same number can come up twice in a row, which is exactly what randomness looks like.

This uses the browser's standard pseudo-random generator, which is right for draws, games, sampling and picking a winner. It is not intended for passwords or security keys — for those, use the password generator, which draws on the browser's cryptographic random source.

Key Benefits

Both ends included

A range of 1 to 100 can return 1 and 100, which is what most draws expect.

Uniform distribution

Every value in the range is equally likely; nothing is weighted towards the middle.

Runs in your browser

No server involved, so the result cannot be influenced or logged elsewhere.

How to use Random Number

  1. 1

Enter the lowest number you want to allow.

  2. 2

Enter the highest number; it is included in the range.

  3. 3

Generate a number, and generate again for another draw.

  4. 4

For a prize draw, note each result as you go, since values can repeat.

Best use cases

Pick a winner from numbered entries.

Choose a random sample for a survey or an audit.

Decide a turn order or a team split.

Generate test data for a quick experiment.

Random Number FAQs

Are the numbers truly random?

They come from the browser's pseudo-random generator, which is statistically uniform and unpredictable in practice for games, draws and sampling. It is not designed for cryptographic use.

Can the same number appear twice?

Yes. Each draw is independent, so repeats are normal. For a draw without repeats, keep a list and skip numbers you have already used.

Are the minimum and maximum included?

Yes, the range is inclusive at both ends.

Can I use this to generate a password?

Better not. Use the password generator, which uses the browser's cryptographic random source and mixes letters, numbers and symbols.
